Emerging Choreography Showcase

We are thrilled to officially announce Rise City Dance’s first ever Emerging Choreography Showcase! 

The vision for this showcase was born from a passion to provide opportunities for the creative and artistic growth of our dancers by giving them a platform to step into the creative leadership of choreography. In light of this passion, we are thrilled to announce that Rise City Dance will be producing an Emerging Choreography Showcase this May! 

This performance will be an in-studio production exclusively featuring the works of our Rise City Dances. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their own work, receive feedback, and conduct their own rehearsals all with the mentorship of our Rise City Faculty. 

If a student is not interested in the choreography element this year, we HIGHLY encourage them to support their peers by registering as a dancer - this will give them an additional performance opportunity and a unique opportunity to understand dance composition in a way that is not often as visible when working with guest artists and our in-house choreographic faculty. 

Important Dates:

  • Applications for Choreography are due on January 2nd at midnight

  • Applications to preform are due on February 7th (extended!)

  • Rehearsals will begin AFTER Spring Concert on Friday evenings/Saturday or Sunday afternoons

  • The showcase is currently scheduled for Saturday, May 20th 2023

FAQ

  • We encourage dancers to NOT perform in their own choreographic work - we believe this gives them the unique opportunity to step outside of their comfort zone and view their choreography from a new perspective. 

    Exceptions to this rule will have to be proposed in the application and approved by Rise City Faculty.

  • This opportunity (choreographic and performative) is open to Company 4, Company 5, and Unbound dancers 

  • Dancers are welcome to apply as both performers and dancers, however, due to scheduling constraints it is possible they may not be cast in a work if their own choreography is chosen.

  • Rehearsals will be held AFTER the Spring Showcase on Saturdays after your class or on Sunday afternoons.

    Rehearsals will be 1.5 hours long per piece.
